Crystal Palace's Adam Wharton out for up to four weeks with groin injury – Oliver Glasner

Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton is expected to be out for up to four weeks after a setback in his return from a groin injury.

Palace manager Oliver Glasner had been hopeful that Wharton would return after the 3-1 win over Brighton on December 15, but he will now be absent for longer than expected after his surgery on that groin problem.

Although Glasner would not put an exact timeframe on the 20-year-old’s recovery, he said in his press conference before the Boxing Day match with Bournemouth that it would be “more like four weeks than two weeks,” which is likely to rule him out for most of January’s fixtures, including the FA Cup third round tie with Stockport County.

Eberechi Eze will return to the squad after missing Saturday’s 5-1 defeat by Arsenal with a swollen foot, so long as there is no reaction following Tuesday’s training session.

“We have to wait but it looks good,” Glasner said. Right wing-back Daniel Munoz returns from suspension and centre-back Trevoh Chalobah is available again after being rested for that defeat by Arsenal.

Palace have no new injury concerns, with everyone fit who was available against Arsenal.
