Trabzonspor have made a bid of €4m for Burnley captain Josh Brownhill.
The 28-year-old has entered the final year of his contract and has been offered a four year deal in Turkey on significantly improved terms.
Brownhill was made skipper by new Burnley manager Scott Parker and is considered to be a vital part of the club’s attempt to bounce straight back to the Premier League.
The midfielder has played 169 times for the club and previously remained at the club to help them regain their top division status under Vicent Kompany. Last season he played 33 times for Burnley and scored four goals in the Premier League as Burnley finished 19th.
In addition to active interest from Turkey, clubs in the Premier League are known to be monitoring the situation with Brownhill having tracked his — and the club’s — progress over the past 12 months. Burnley have sold key players this summer including Wilson Odobert (to Tottenham Hotspur), Sander Berge (Fulham), Dara O’Shea and Arijanet Muric (both Ipswich Town) and Anass Zaroury (Lens).
Trabzonspor will also hope to offer European football to Brownhill, with the second leg of their Conference League play-off against St Gallen on Thursday evening at home with the scores 0-0 after the first leg. Clubs in Turkey can make signings up to and including September 13, there have also been expressions of interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia. The Saudi window doesn’t close until October 6.
Brownhill, who is committed to playing at the top level, could even still sign an improved contract with Burnley or see out the final year and consider his options next summer.
Burnley have won two of their first three games in the Championship this season but lost 1-0 at leaders Sunderland on Saturday. They face Wolves in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday, two days prior to the transfer window closing in England.
