There is criticism in some parts of the England fanbase, and some predictable places in the media, every time a non-native manager is given the England top job.
And that was no different with Thomas Tuchel, particularly with the history between the country he is from and the country whose national team he will be managing. He gave a great answer when asked about the subject in his first press conference.
“Everyone has their opinion and I can understand it. I can understand why someone would fancy an English coach more for the England team but we deserve a fair chance,” he said.
“We deserve credit for having a good record in the country and never being shy of how much we love to live in the country. Maybe this counts a little bit for a British edge on my German passport.
“And we’ll try to convince (the England fans) by results and by the way we play.”
