Fiorentina forward Moise Kean taken to hospital after sustaining head injury against Hellas Verona

Fiorentina have confirmed that forward Moise Kean has been taken to hospital after sustaining a “head trauma” during the side’s 1-0 loss to Hellas Verona on Sunday.

Kean collided with Verona players Pawel Dawidowicz and Diego Coppola during the second half of the Serie A fixture and initially returned to the pitch after having his head bandaged.

However, the Italy international collapsed on the field shortly after coming back on. Players on both sides rushed over to Kean and he was treated by medical staff.

After a period of treatment, the 24-year-old was stretchered off the pitch wearing a neck brace in the 67th minute.

“Moise Kean, during the match against Verona, suffered a head trauma,” Fiorentina said in a statement. “The footballer is in hospital for tests.”

This is the second time this season that Fiorentina have had a player collapse during a game. Midfielder Edoardo Bove, on loan at the club from Roma, was taken to hospital after losing consciousness against Inter on December 1. The match was subsequently suspended.

Fiorentina confirmed the following day that Bove was “awake and alert.”

“The initial cardiological and neurological examinations have ruled out acute damage to the central nervous system and cardiorespiratory system,” the club added in a statement.

Bove has not played since the incident.

Kean joined Fiorentina in the summer in a permanent transfer from Juventus and has made an immediate impact, scoring 19 goals in 30 appearances. He has also previously had spells with Verona, Everton and Paris Saint-Germain.
