Arsenal and Paris Saint-Germain are both among the most well-known clubs in this sport. It’s exceedingly rare that two sides of this caliber get to seek a historic first together, yet whoever advances past Wednesday’s second leg will have a clear look at their first-ever Champions League trophy.
PSG claimed the first leg in North London last week, a 1-0 grinder settled by Ousmane Dembélé’s fourth-minute goal. The rematch goes down Wednesday at Parc des Princes. Arsenal is 0-for-5 in second-leg turnaround efforts after losing the first leg at home in European play.

Arsenal and PSG are each 0-1 at this tournament’s final stage. The Gunners lost to Barcelona in 2006, 2-1, after allowing two late-match goals. The Parisians fell short against Bayern Munich, 1-0, in 2020.
Dembélé’s left-footed triumph in the last leg was set up by Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s controlled roller through the box:

The Londoners had a chance to get right after the dispiriting start, though. Mikel Merino earned an equalizer look that was ultimately flagged for offside, while PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma tallied five saves to seal the win. It was tight all-around: each side had 15 fouls and drew two yellows, while Arsenal edged its opponent in shots on goal, 5-to-4, and PSG had 52 percent of the possession.
Declan Rice told reporters that his club has what it takes to pull off a rare second-leg comeback. Just two clubs, Ajax (1996) and Tottenham (2019), dropped the home first leg of Champions League semis and still advanced to the final.
“One-hundred percent, we’re sure we can do it,” he said. “The atmosphere… is going to be incredible as well, but we’ve proved that we can handle big situations. (Wednesday) night is another massive step for this team.”
Dembélé will be available after recovering from a minor hamstring injury, PSG manager Luis Enrique confirmed. The 27-year-old Frenchman has eight goals and three assists in this Champions League campaign. Arsenal is coming off a 2-1 loss at Bournemouth, in which its defensive dead-ball deficiencies were exposed. PSG also lost 2-1 last weekend to Strasbourg, a second straight Ligue 1 defeat although the league title has long since been clinched.
