Mace has promoted two staff to lead some of its fastest growing areas: life sciences, data centres and the public sector.
Rob Lemming becomes the contractor’s managing director for public sector and life sciences, while Alister Grey takes up the role of managing director for technology and manufacturing.
Lemming took up the role on an interim basis in January, leading work-winning and project delivery.
He has been with the firm since 2014 and helped Mace deliver its £1bn AstraZeneca Discovery Centre in Cambridge.
Grey joined Mace from Laing O’Rourke in 2016, supporting the development of its construction management model, which was used on the £1.8bn second phase of Battersea Power Station.
He later became commercial director of the technology and manufacturing business unit. He is now tasked with building on his data centre experience and supporting Mace Consult’s global semiconductor and gigafactory services.
Grey said Mace was already delivering some of the most complex projects in the data centre market. He added: “There is a technology revolution underway with the rise of AI and the world needs the digital infrastructure to support it.”
Mace chief executive Gareth Lewis said the appointments reflected how the company was tapping into developing markets and looking to its existing teams to deliver growth plans.
He said: “For over 30 years Mace has been delivering some of the world’s most challenging construction projects – among the most iconic structures ever built – but we don’t stand still.
“We have ambitious targets to expand our business across the globe and in diverse sectors, and to do this it is important that we have the right people in place.”
