Manchester United defender Harry Maguire says he will be out for “a few weeks” after sustaining an injury during their goalless draw at Aston Villa on Sunday.
The 31-year-old appeared to be in discomfort at the end of the first half of the game after defending a set piece and was replaced by Matthijs de Ligt at half-time.

“Frustrated to pick up an injury at the weekend, will be a few weeks on the sideline for me but I’ll come back stronger,” Maguire posted on social media. United have confirmed Maguire suffered a muscle injury against Villa and he faces several weeks out.
The match at Villa Park was only Maguire’s third start of the Premier League season with United manager Erik ten Hag rotating between him, De Ligt, Lisandro Martinez and Jonny Evans in defence. Victor Lindelof is also a centre-back option and summer signing Leny Yoro is yet to make his competitive debut due to injury.
Maguire scored a last-minute header in United’s 3-3 draw at FC Porto in Thursday’s Europa League clash, having come on as a 78th-minute substitute.
The central defender was recently excluded from England’s squad for their October Nations League fixtures despite playing for Lee Carsley’s side in the September win against the Republic of Ireland.
United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo had been included in Carsley’s squad but had to withdraw due to injury on Monday.
