Mark Scheifele’s Game 6 status for Winnipeg Jets uncertain following death of his father


DALLAS — Mark Scheifele’s dad, Brad, died overnight, Winnipeg Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff told reporters on Saturday morning. Scheifele remained at the team hotel during Winnipeg’s morning skate on Saturday. His status for Game 6 remains uncertain.

“As an organization, we’re doing everything we can to support him,” Cheveldayoff said. “We wish and give his family our most sincere condolences. And we ask that everybody respect their privacy this time.”

Cheveldayoff also shared that Jets coach Scott Arniel left Winnipeg’s morning skate to speak with Scheifele. Arniel is scheduled to address reporters in Dallas at 4:30 pm. Central.

Brad Scheifele had attended Jets playoff games in support of his son. The team did not disclose the cause or details of his death.

“Certainly unexpected this morning, Cheveldayoff said. “I don’t have many of the other details. Certainly appreciate everyone’s understanding. Today is a different day, but we’re a family and we’re going to do everything we can to support Mark.”

Winnipeg trails Dallas 3-2 in the second-round series. Scheifele has two goals and two assists in the first five games. In the regular season, Scheifele was second on the Jets with 39 goals and 48 assists.
