Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Matheus Cunha has been charged by the Football Association (FA) following an altercation with an Ipswich Town security guard after their Premier League game on Saturday.
The Brazil international was pictured in an angry scuffle after the 2-1 defeat at Molineux on Saturday where he allegedly left the member of the visiting side’s security team with his glasses broken.
Ipswich expected the matter to be investigated by the FA and it has now charged the 25-year-old with misconduct.
A statement read: “Matheus Cunha has been charged with misconduct following the Premier League match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Ipswich Town on Saturday, 14 December.
“The forward allegedly acted in an improper manner after the final whistle. He has until Thursday, 19 December, to provide a response.”
Cunha had earlier scored his eighth Premier League goal of the season in what proved to be Gary O’Neil’s final game in charge of the club. He was sacked after 16 months in the role on Sunday. Vitor Pereira is expected to be appointed his successor.
After the final whistle, Wolves defender Rayan Ait-Nouri was shown a second yellow card and a subsequent red and had to be escorted down the tunnel following a spat with Ipswich players. Cunha was also seen with his hand in the face of an Ipswich staff member and appeared to remove his glasses.
Those incidents came just five days after midfielder Mario Lemina was involved in a post-match altercation with West Ham’s Jarrod Bowen after the 2-1 defeat at the London Stadium. He had to be dragged away after shoving two Wolves team-mates and first-team coach Shaun Derry.
Lemina was stripped of the Wolves captaincy following that altercation, while during the 4-2 defeat by Bournemouth late last month goalkeeper Jose Sa also climbed into the North Bank at Molineux to argue with fans at half-time.
Wolves are 19th in the Premier League table — five points from safety — after just two wins from their 16 games.
