Munnelly Group names new chief executive as founder becomes chairman

Munnelly Group has appointed chief operating officer (COO) Paul Munnelly as its new chief executive, following a leadership transition that sees founder Phil Munnelly become chairman.

The changes come as the family-owned construction and infrastructure services firm continues its strategy of long-term growth and operational stability.

The company, which was founded in 1982, has evolved into a multi-brand business covering construction logistics, security, rail, recruitment, work-winning and geospatial surveying.

Its latest accounts, for the year to 31 March 2024, showed turnover of £147.2m and pre-tax profit of £1.4m.

Phil Munnelly, who has led the business as chief executive for more than four decades, will remain involved in strategic decision-making and external client relations. He said the business now had a leadership structure capable of maintaining delivery standards while pursuing long-term goals.

“This leadership evolution has enabled me to transition into a more ambassadorial role, where my industry experience and network can add the most value,” he said.

Paul Munnelly (pictured left, with Phil) has served as COO since late 2021 and has led a programme of operational improvement and business development across the group. He said the leadership changes were aimed at consolidating performance across the company’s portfolio of services.

“By making these boardroom transitions, we are strengthening our strategic leadership team to continue delivering excellent service to our clients and partners,” he said.
