Queen’s, the prestigious grass court tournament warm-up for Wimbledon, will be a mixed tournament from 2025.

The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) has confirmed that a WTA 500-level tournament will run the week before the existing Cinch Championships men’s tournament, which this year starts June 15. It is the first time that London has held a WTA event outside Wimbledon in 50 years.

The new tournament will have knock-on effects for the grass court season. The Surbiton event, which Andy Murray has frequented and won in recent years, will cease to exist, while tournaments in Birmingham and Eastbourne will be downgraded from WTA 500 to WTA 250.

Prior to confirmation, there had been concerns about the state of the grass courts for the men’s event after a week of play. The LTA have been bullish over this, saying that they have every confidence in the data that shows it will hold up.
