Record winners of the competition, Real Madrid, were widely expected to triumph with Dortmund considered significant underdogs. But it was the Bundesliga side that looked most likely to take the lead in the first half with Karim Adeyemi and Niclas Fullkrug going close to an opening goal.
In the second half though, Madrid improved and won a 15th Champions League title thanks to a headed goal from Dani Carvajal and a cool finish from Vinicius Jr.
