Skoda Shortlists 10 Names For Upcoming Sub-4 Meter SUV

Skoda earlier this year announced its plans to launch a sub-4 meter SUV in the Indian market. The sub-4 meter compact SUV segment is one of the most competitive segments, consisting of cars like the Maruti Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Kia Sonet, Nissan Magnite, Renault Kiger, and the upcoming Mahindra XUV 3XO. After announcing the new SUV, the Czech car manufacturer invited names for the new SUV from fans and followers online. The manufacturer has now shortlisted 10 names for its upcoming SUV.

The manufacturer had actually conducted a contest online, inviting users to name the new SUV. They had initially shortlisted 15 and then later finalized 10 names out of them. They have finalized these names from 2 lakh entries on social media. The names that have been shortlisted by Skoda are Kylaq, Kymaq, Kwiq, Kariq, Kyroq, Kosmiq, Kaiq, Kayaq, Kliq, and Karmiq.

The only condition that Skoda had while starting this contest was that the name of the SUV should start with K and end with Q. The names mentioned here also meet the conditions. Out of the 10 names mentioned here, 5 names were already suggested by Skoda on the day of the announcement. One lucky winner, whose name will be selected by Skoda for their upcoming SUV, will be gifted this new SUV and will also get a chance to visit the Skoda headquarters in Mlada Boleslav in the Czech Republic.

The upcoming sub-4 meter SUV from Skoda is based on the same platform as the Kushaq and Slavia. It will use the MQB Ao IN platform, which was specifically designed for Indian models. Skoda has already started working on the SUV, and the test mules have been spotted testing a couple of times.

The Skoda SUV will have an upright-looking front end with Skoda’s signature grille extending to meet the dual-function LED DRL. There are vertical slats on the front grille in the test mule spotted recently. The headlamps are placed on the bumper of the SUV, and it is a dual-chamber LED unit.

The side profile of the SUV looks similar to the Kushaq and other Skoda SUVs in the market. At the rear, there are bright LED tail lamps. The design of the upcoming Skoda SUV’s tail lamp looks similar to the one that came with the Volkswagen Polo. The test mule spotted was missing features like a rear defogger and wiper, shark fin antenna, sunroof, or any camera.

The test mule spotted was probably a lower-spec variant, and the higher versions of the same will have more features. To conclude, the upcoming SUV is expected to be a mini version of the Kushaq.

The upcoming SUV from Skoda is going to be the most affordable product from the manufacturer for the Indian market. The SUV will be powered by a 1.0-liter, three-cylinder, turbocharged petrol engine that we have already seen with the Kushaq and Slavia. This engine generates 115 Ps and 178 Nm of peak torque.

The SUV will be offered with a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission option. The SUV is expected to hit Indian shores sometime in 2025. As of now, there is no information available on whether Volkswagen would also be introducing a version of this SUV after the launch of Skoda’s SUV.
