Toyota’s Badge Engineered New Maruti Swift: What It Could Look Like [Video]

Maruti launched the all-new Swift in the market a few weeks ago. We have started seeing several videos and images of the new Swift on the internet. In the last couple of weeks, we have also seen modified and accessorized versions of the Swift. We are all aware of the Toyota and Suzuki partnership, and here we have a video that reimagines what the all-new Swift would look like if Toyota were to launch a badge-engineered version of the premium hatchback.

The video has been shared by SRK Designs on their YouTube channel. In this video, we see a Maruti Swift with cosmetic changes to the front. The render calls the rebadged version the Toyota Etios Liva. The Liva was offered in the market and was once the entry-level offering from Toyota in India. However, the car was later discontinued due to newer emission norms.

Regarding the render, only the front of the hatchback has been redesigned. It continues to have the clamshell bonnet and sleek-looking headlamps with projector lights. The major difference here is the front grille. It has a sleeker-looking front grille with the Toyota logo above it. The front grille is, in fact, similar to what Toyota used to offer with the older Etios.

The bumper also gets minor changes, and we also see a lower air dam at the front. This is missing from the Swift. The fog lamp area on this hatchback has also been redesigned. Regarding the side profile, the design of the alloy wheels looks the same as the regular Swift, but the logo in the center is of Toyota.

It should be noted that the image seen here is just a render and Maruti Suzuki and Toyota have no plans to introduce a rebadged version of the Swift in the market. In fact, Toyota was interested in launching rebadged versions of the Swift and Jimny. However, Suzuki politely declined the request. Suzuki stated that both the Swift and Jimny are integral to the brand’s DNA and are not for sharing. Suzuki added that sharing these models would dilute their iconic status.

If the brands had shared these models, both Toyota and Suzuki would have benefited from it. However, Suzuki refused it. Suzuki and Toyota have been in partnership for years now, jointly developing products like the Maruti Grand Vitara and Hyryder.

Both manufacturers sell different versions of cars in India, such as the Toyota Innova Hycross, Maruti Baleno, and Ertiga. If Suzuki ever agrees to rebadge the Swift, the hatchback might look like what we saw in the render video.

Mechanically, the hatchback would remain the same. Toyota’s version of the Swift would have the Toyota logo in place of Suzuki’s and the name would also be different. The current generation Swift is powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine that generates 82 Ps and 112 Nm of peak torque.

The hatchback is available with a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT gearbox option. The price for the Suzuki Swift starts at Rs 6.49 lakh, ex-showroom, and goes up to Rs 9.64 lakh, ex-showroom.
