Tata recently launched the new updated Nexon and its electrified version. Soon, the brand will bring in a slew of updated vehicles including the Punch EV, which is likely to be launched by the end of this year.
The new set of spy pictures by b.chowww shows the new Punch EV test mule cruising at 100 km/h on the Mumbai-Pune expressway. The test mule looks like ready for launch and is likely undergoing the final tests.
Despite heavy camouflage, the Tata Punch EV closely resembles the regular Punch, although subtle differences may exist, similar to what we’ve seen in other Tata models such as the Tiago and Nexon. Expect to see blue accents throughout the body, while the overall shape is likely to remain unchanged.
The spy images also reveal rear disc brakes on the electrified version, a departure from the drum brake system seen in the ICE version. With the electric powertrain, additional features are expected, including wireless charging, auto hold, and more.
What will cabin get?
A glimpse of the dashboard indicates that the car will retain the same 7.0-inch Harman infotainment system found in the regular version. Additions like Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, automatic climate control, and more are also likely to be included.
The higher end variants might get the 12.3-inch infotainment screen from the Nexon EV. But an earlier spy picture has revealed that Tata Motors will continue with the 7.0-inch screen. However, Tata may add the new features from Nexon EV. But it remains highly unlikely as Tata may want to keep the Punch EV and Nexon EV separate for different consumers.
While specific details about the powertrain of the upcoming Tata Punch EV are not currently available, it is anticipated that the vehicle will feature Tata’s Ziptron technology, similar to the Tata Tiago EV and Nexon EV. The Ziptron technology provides various battery pack options, each offering different ranges. However, the Punch EV is based on the ALFA platform, which has “Born Electric” capabilities. It will be the first true Born Electric car from Tata Motors.
The recently introduced Tiago EV, for instance, comes with a 24 kWh battery pack that achieves an MIDC-certified range of 315 km, while a smaller 19.2 kWh battery pack offers a range of 250 km. It is probable that the Tata Punch EV will maintain similar range figures.
