5-Door Mahindra Thar Armada To Get ADAS: Details


Mahindra Automotive has been diligently testing the upcoming Thar five-door (Armada) in the country. Numerous spy shots of this SUV have been spotted across many states. Most recently, another test mule was spotted, and it has now revealed a new key detail. This test mule showed that the Thar five-door will most likely come with ADAS. The spy shots reveal the camera module for this safety feature.

These pictures of the Thar five-door with the ADAS camera system come courtesy of Rushlane. In these pictures, this particular test mule was spotted getting refueled at a fuel station. Eagle-eyed viewers would be able to note that there is a camera behind the IRVM. Most likely, this is for the ADAS.

As per the reports, the company will be offering the new Thar five-door (Armada) with the same ADAS system as the XUV700. For those who may not be aware, the XUV700 utilizes a camera and radar-based ADAS system. This is a very advanced Level 2 ADAS which comes with a number of important features.

Most likely, the company will be offering this upcoming lifestyle off-roader with a slew of features with its ADAS suite. These features could include adaptive cruise control, high beam assist, and traffic sign recognition.

It could also offer it with automatic emergency braking and driver drowsiness system as well. Additionally, features like front collision warning, lane keep assist, smart pilot assist, lane departure warning could also be a part of the ADAS suite.

Apart from this advanced active safety feature, the Thar five-door will most likely get a ton of other safety features. This is because this SUV will be targeted at family buyers who are looking to get into off-roading.

The list of these other safety features could include six airbags, including curtain airbags, ABS, and EBD. It could also come with a 360-degree camera, all four wheels with disc brakes, and multiple parking sensors at the front and rear.

Coming to the exterior design noted from this recent as well as previous test mules. The upcoming Thar five-door (or Armada – as this name has been trademarked) will have a few distinct changes on the outside.

The first will be a brand new grille which will have 6 slats with a divider in between. This divider divides the grille into 12 rectangular elements with the top ones being slightly larger. Apart from this, the company will be offering this SUV with circular LED headlights with DRLs.

Apart from this, the rest of the exterior will most likely be the same at the front. On the side profile, the main highlight will be the new additional doors with handles mounted on the C-pillar. It will also get a full metal roof and this test mule also shows the single-pane electric sunroof of this SUV as well.

Moving on to the interior of the new Thar five-door. It will be getting a much bigger 10.25-inch which we have already seen in the XUV 400. This is the same screen that will be featured in the upcoming XUV 3XO as well.

Apart from this, the Thar five-door will also come with three individual headrests and seatbelts. It will also get roof-mounted speakers on the rear of the car like the Scorpio-N and XUV700. The SUV will also get a 10-inch digital instrument gauge cluster with graphics similar to that of the XUV700.

As for the powertrain side of things, it will be getting the same engine options as the three-door model. Presently, the Mahindra Thar three-door model comes available with a few different options.

It comes with a 2.0-liter turbocharged petrol and 2.2-liter diesel engine options in the four-wheel-drive variants. Reports have stated that the 5-door Thar will retain both of these engine options in a higher state of tune.

Most likely the Thar five-door will be launched on August 15 this year. And for the pricing it could be priced in the range of Rs 15-25 lakh.
