Everton Women manager Brian Sorensen has signed new contract to remain in charge until June 2026.
Sorensen, 43, joined the Merseyside club from Danish outfit Fortuna Hjorring ahead of the 2022-23 season and led Everton to a top-six finish in the Women’s Super League (WSL) in his maiden campaign.
Sorensen — whose previous deal was set to expire this summer — said: “I’m very happy – I really like it here. I like the club, I like the people in the club and I like the fans.
“There’s a plan in place, we have a good future and a good squad going forward. I think it’s important to show in the background there’s a plan.”
The Toffees have won one of their past five WSL outings, but Sorenson says the “building blocks” are in place for future improvement.
“Results this season haven’t been the best at times – injuries to key players have been a big part of that – but we are performing extremely well and we have a good group. We want to continue working on that. The building blocks are there.”
He added: “We’re all determined to keep moving forward with Everton.”
Also extending his stay is Sorensen’s assistant manager Neligan. The duo previously worked together at Danish clubs FC Nordsjaelland and Fortuna Hjorring, with the Australian moving to Merseyside in July 2022.

“I’m delighted to continue here at Everton,” said Neligan. “Brian and I are really excited to extend our time here and continue the path we’ve started.
“I feel there is a solid foundation that we’re working from and we’re looking forward to continue doing the best for this club.
“It’s been a challenging but interesting first couple of years in English football. I think we’ve got a great group of players here and we’re excited for the future.”
Everton Women CEO, Alan McTavish, said: “It’s now over two years since Brian first agreed to join us and I’m really pleased that we’ve been able to reach a new agreement to continue for at least another two seasons.
“In my opinion, there is no doubt that the Barclays WSL is the best, most competitive women’s league in the world and the competition is only going in one direction.
“This season has been a difficult one but I’m confident that we can regroup this summer, prepare well and be ready to go again come September.”
Everton — currently 10th in the table, nine points ahead of bottom-placed Bristol City — are next in action at Brighton & Hove Albion on Friday night.
